The United Kingdom and the United States have imposed sanctions on seven Russians who are allegedly involved in hacking activities. About it reported in the press office of the British government.
“Seven Russian cybercriminals [Виталий Ковалев, Валерий Седлецкий, Валентин Карягин, Максим Михайлов, Дмитрий Плешевский, Михаил Искрицкий и Иван Вахромеев] Today <...> subjected to UK and US sanctions as part of the first wave of new coordinated action against international cybercrime,” the statement said.
It is clarified that these Russians were allegedly associated with the development or distribution of a number of ransomware programs in the UK and the US, which pose a first-level national security threat. They are banned from entering both countries and their assets have been frozen.
The decision to launch a coordinated effort against international cybercrime came after the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) identified 149 victims among the British population from programs such as Ryuk and Conti. As a result of this attack, about 27 million pounds ($32.86 million) were stolen.
