The United States will provide Ukraine with an additional $1.3 billion in aid. This was announced by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
“With the support of the US Congress, we will provide more than $1.3 billion in additional assistance to help Ukraine achieve these goals (for the reconstruction of the country – ed.),” – leads Blinken’s words to Reuters.
According to the secretary of state, the United States will also allocate funds to various areas of the Ukrainian economy, including $657 million to modernize railways, airports and other infrastructure that links the country with Europe, and about $520 million to restore energy. The United States also plans to provide financial support to Ukrainian businesses ($35 million) and finance the fight against corruption.
The $1.3 billion will complement Ukraine’s support package, which includes more than $20 billion in economic aid from the United States, Blinken said.
The day before, June 20, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen statedthat the EU will provide Ukraine with 50 billion euros for 2024-2027. For the first part of the plan to restore the country, Kyiv requested up to $40 billion, the agency notes.
At the end of May, the Pentagon estimated the amount of military assistance allocated to Ukraine at $37.6 billion. In June, the United States announced a $2.1 billion aid package to the Armed Forces of Ukraine as part of a program to purchase military products from defense enterprises, designed to provide long-term assistance to Kiev.
