Two Tu-95MS missile carriers completed a planned flight over the neutral waters of the Chukchi Sea. This is reported by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
“The flight duration was more than 13 hours. During the flight, the crews of long-range aviation aircraft carried out refueling in the air, ”- says in a departmental announcement.
The missile carriers were escorted by MiG-31, Su-30SM and Su-35S and air defense aircraft of the Eastern Military District. The Ministry of Defense stressed that all flights are carried out in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace.
Last time patrolling over the Chukchi and Okhotsk seas two Tu-95MS carried out February 15 this year. The total flight duration was more than 7 hours.
The Ministry of Defense noted that long-range aviation pilots regularly fly over the neutral waters of the Arctic, North Atlantic, Black and Baltic Seas, as well as the Pacific Ocean.
The Tu-95MS strategic bomber is part of the long-range aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces. The aircraft is a component of the Russian nuclear triad. According to the data on the website of the defense department, the Tu-95MS is designed to deliver strikes in remote military geographical areas and in the rear of military operations. The bomber can strike with conventional missile and bomb weapons, including cruise missiles.
