Two nuclear submarines – the strategic Alexander III (Project 955A, Borey-A) and the multi-purpose Krasnoyarsk (Project 885M, Yasen-M) – were transferred to the Russian Navy, reports “RIA News” with reference to its own sources in the Russian military-industrial complex.
According to the agency’s interlocutor, all official documents on the transfer of submarines to the fleet have already been signed. The flag-raising ceremony on the submarines is expected to take place “after December 10th” (the exact date has not yet been determined).
“Emperor Alexander III” is the seventh nuclear-powered missile submarine cruiser of Project 955 and the fourth ship of the improved Project 955A. It was laid down in December 2015 and launched in December 2022. The Navy noted that it would be transferred to the Pacific Fleet.
“Krasnoyarsk” is the second serial submarine and the third ship of the 885M project. It was laid down in 2014 and launched in July 2021. It is also going to be transferred to the Pacific Fleet.
Project 955 submarines belong to the 4th generation of nuclear missile submarines. They are armed with 16 Bulava ballistic missiles and are designed to solve strategic nuclear deterrence tasks. Project 885M nuclear submarines are a modernized version of Project 885, armed with Kalibr and Oniks cruise missiles.
