Chairman of the Committee of the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry on transport development Bogdan Konoshenko supported the idea of the head of state, but noted that the replacement of the government fleet should take years.

In 1997, at the suggestion of Nemtsov, who then held the post of Deputy Prime Minister, and on the orders of Boris Yeltsin, seven imported cars from the presidential garage were sold at auction. This experiment stalled. The expert clarifies that the simultaneous sale of the entire departmental fleet in the current realities is also inappropriate and may result in losses for the budget.
– While officials drive foreign cars, let them drive. They need to be “finished off” before the end of their service life, and only domestic cars or imported ones should be purchased for replacement, but with the localization of production in Russia. It is desirable that the brand is also Russian. For example, the Moskvich plant went down this path. He was saved. Yes, the technologies there are now Chinese, but the production is ours,” says Bogdan Konoshenko.
The expert suggested replacing imported cars of officials with domestic ones according to a special schedule. According to his calculations, in a maximum of 10 years there will be nothing left of foreign cars in the public sector.
True, in order to implement Putin’s idea, officials will have to block the detour. As Anton Shaparin, vice-president of the National Automobile Union, noted, departments often do not buy foreign-made cars, but rent them. And that’s a completely different story.
