Turnover of e-commerce in Russia increased by 17% in January-April

The total turnover of the online retail market in Russia in the first four months of 2023 increased by 17% year-on-year, amounting to almost 1.8 trillion rubles. This was announced by the President of the Association of Internet Trade Companies (AKIT) Artem Sokolov at the Russian Retail Week 2023 forum.
“The volume of sales of Russian online commerce for the four months of 2023 amounted to almost 1.8 trillion rubles. Growth in volumes … by 17% exceeded the data of the same period last year,” – leads his words TASS.
According to Sokolov, this is an impressive figure, since in the first months of last year there was a rush of demand. He also drew attention to the 24% year-on-year growth in online sales in January, noting that such indicators are not typical for the first month of the year.
How wrote Earlier, Vedomosti, citing Data Insight research, the total turnover of the online retail market in Russia in 2022 amounted to 5.7 trillion rubles. Compared to the year before, this figure increased by 38%. In physical terms, the growth is even more noticeable – about 65% to 2.8 billion orders.
Despite significant growth, the pace of development of this market has slowed down. In 2021, the total turnover of this segment increased by 52% in money terms and by 104% in physical terms compared to the previous year. Analysts attribute this to the departure of international suppliers and retailers from the Russian market, as well as a decrease in traffic in shopping centers. According to Data Insight, in 2023, the combined share of the two market leaders, Wildberries and Ozon, will average 53% in online sales and 77% in orders for the year.
