The Turkish state oil and gas company BOTAŞ has denied media reports about Turkey’s gas debt to Russia in the amount of $27.5 billion. The company’s statement stressed that such allegations are unfounded and groundless.

BOTAŞ expressed concern about the spread of such misinformation, especially at a time when Turkey is actively pursuing significant investments and export agreements in the energy sector, making it a key player on the global stage, according to the release. The company also highlighted Turkey’s ambition to become a central energy country in the centenary year of the Turkish Republic.

BOTAŞ also claims that the purpose of such messages is to cause damage to the company at the national and international levels, as well as discredit its brand.
