The leader of the Republican People’s Party of Turkey, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, urged “not to commit a sin” (haram) and not to vote in the second round of elections for the incumbent head of state, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He made the announcement on Fox, writes TASS.

“Fear the Almighty when you go to the polls. Do not commit haraam by voting for Erdogan,” said Kılıçdaroğlu.

Justice and Development Party (AKP) spokesman Omer Celik condemned Erdogan’s rival’s call for the upcoming elections. He called the words of Kılıçdaroglu an atavism of the legacy of those who carried out military coups in Turkey.

The presidential elections in Turkey were held on May 14. The official turnout reached a record 88.9%, but none of the three candidates passed the 50% mark needed to win in the first round.

Erdogan won 49.4% against Kılıçdaroğlu’s 44.88%, while the nationalist candidate Sinan Ogan won 5.17% of the vote. Ogan announced his support for the incumbent in the second round, which will be held on May 28.
