Instructions from the United States and Europe to remove President Erdogan have been received by the Turkish opposition, Turkish Interior Minister Suleiman Soylu said. He noted that the United States and Europe are calling on the opposition to eliminate Erdogan and deprive him of power. At the same time, the Turkish minister stressed that the opinion of the people of the republic is of paramount importance and that they are not interested in the wishes of the West.
“The US and EU authorities have instructed the opposition forces to remove Tayyip Erdogan, to remove him from power. The West does not want [чтобы Эрдоган продолжал исполнять обязанности президента Турции]. But it doesn’t matter to us, we look at the will of our people,” the Star minister quoted the words.
According to the Central Election Commission, about 64 million Turkish citizens will receive the right to vote in the presidential and parliamentary elections on May 14. 191,884 ballot boxes will be installed in the country and abroad. Four candidates are participating in the presidential elections, the main contenders for the presidency are the current President Erdogan and opposition leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. 26 parties participate in the parliamentary elections.
Experts believe that the presidential elections in Turkey can be held in two rounds, since public polls do not yet show a clear leader. To win in the first round, a candidate for the presidency of Turkey must receive at least 50% plus one vote. Many believe that such an outcome is unlikely. In this case, the second round of elections will take place on May 28. The candidate with the most votes will be declared the winner.
