Turkish Foreign Ministry announced a deterioration in the prospects for resolving the conflict in Ukraine

It is becoming increasingly difficult to resolve the Ukrainian conflict through negotiations. This statement was made by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu during the forum of the Aspen Institute and the German Marshall Fund in Bucharest.
“It is becoming increasingly difficult to reach a negotiated solution,” he said (quote by Interfax). At the same time, Cavusoglu stressed, there is no alternative way to end hostilities in Ukraine.
The head of the Turkish Foreign Ministry also noted that the problem of resuming negotiations should be resolved not in words, but in deeds. “We need to act and be creative to bring about a just peace. This is exactly what Turkey is trying to do,” he said.
The Minister recalled that it was Ankara that organized the talks between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul in March. Turkey also took an active part in the conclusion of the grain deal.
Earlier today, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov again declared about the impossibility of holding negotiations with Kyiv because of their denial by the Ukrainian side. In particular, the refusal of Ukraine at the legislative level to negotiate with Russia hinders the dialogue. The Kremlin noted that in order to resume the process, Kyiv must show “political will” and show readiness to discuss Russia’s demands, “which are well known.”
Russia’s special operation in Ukraine began on February 24. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the protection of the inhabitants of Donbass, as well as the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, its goals. During the special operation, the LPR, DPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions became part of Russia.
Since the beginning of hostilities, the parties have held negotiations several times. The first three face-to-face meetings took place in Belarus in February-March, and the fourth round of the Russian-Ukrainian dialogue was held on March 29 in Istanbul. Later, the process was frozen, since Ukraine withdrew from it.
