Minister Cavusoglu: Turkey does not plan to completely ban the sale of housing to foreigners
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that the country’s authorities do not intend to completely ban the sale of housing to foreigners against the backdrop of a huge increase in property prices. However, he warned that a number of measures would be taken after the elections.
Opposition presidential candidate Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu earlier in his election campaign called for a ban on the sale of apartments to foreign citizens.
“This problem cannot be solved by bans,” the minister said in an interview with Habertürk. “As the president has already said, we will make a number of adjustments.”
Real estate prices in Turkey almost tripled over the year, the Central Bank of the country informed. The largest growth was recorded in Antalya – over 195%. In Istanbul, the index grew by 154%, now the average cost of 1 sq. m. in the new building is more than 28 thousand Turkish lira (more than 1.5 thousand dollars).
