Bloomberg: Turkey prioritizes preserving Russian S-400s over acquiring F-35 fighters
Ukrainian media reported in recent publications that Turkey is considering the issue of transferring Russian S-400 Triumph anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM) to Kyiv, but this information has not received official confirmation from the Turkish side.
It is noted that reports of the possible transfer of Russian complexes were not based on statements by specific individuals, but on the conjectures of the authors. One of the prerequisites was the statement of US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, who at the end of January said that Washington would agree to Ankara’s return to the F-35 fighter program if the issue with the S-400 acquired by the Turkish side is “resolved.”
At the same time, on February 5, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan made a statement that it was more important for Ankara to preserve the Russian air defense system than to acquire F-35 fighters. Bloomberg called the corresponding statement another refusal by Turkey to the US proposal.
