Turkey sharply reduced purchases of Russian energy resources in October

In October 2022, imports of Russian mineral fuels (coal, oil, gas) to Turkey amounted to $3.71 billion. The indicator decreased by a quarter compared to September, when it was at the level of $5 billion, notes RBC with reference to the data of the Turkish Institute of Statistics (Turkstat).

At the same time, in annual terms, Turkey increased purchases of Russian energy resources by 2.9 times. In October last year, this figure was $1.28 billion.

The Institute of Statistics does not specify how much oil, coal or gas imports from Russia separately account for. RBC notes that “confidential” imports from Russia in October fell from $3.8 billion to $2.35 billion. This figure also includes the supply of crude oil and pipeline gas from Russia.

The total volume of imports from Russia to Turkey in October amounted to almost $5 billion. And for the ten months of 2022, Russian goods worth about $50 billion were imported into the country, according to statistics.

At the end of October, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Economic Development Vladimir Ilyichev declaredthat the trade turnover between Russia and Turkey from January to September 2022 almost doubled compared to the same period in 2021, to $47 billion. The ministry predicted trade turnover between the countries at the end of the year at $60 billion.
