Turkey does not have the “pressure of time” in the matter of ratifying the applications of Sweden and Finland to NATO, only these countries themselves need to take steps quickly. This was stated by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.
“There are still many steps to be taken. Time pressure is on Finland and Sweden. Especially in Finland, where elections will be held in the coming months. We don’t have time pressure,” the Sabah quoted him as saying.
According to him, Ankara is waiting for all the promises of Helsinki and Stockholm to be fulfilled. At the same time, Turkey “made a gesture and allowed the process of negotiations on membership to begin,” the minister said.
Recall that Sweden and Finland declared their desire to join NATO shortly after the start of the NWO. On May 18, they submitted an application, but Turkey blocked the process: the country put forward a number of conditions, including the extradition of Kurds hiding in the Scandinavian countries, whom Ankara accuses of terrorism.
