Turkey demanded from Ukraine to explain calls to impose sanctions against businesses

Turkey demanded an explanation from Ukraine in connection with the information that the country is conducting a campaign in support of the imposition of sanctions against Turkish businessmen and banks cooperating with Russia, said Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic Mevlut Cavusoglu.

“I got the impression that the campaign initiated by Ukraine is directed only against Turkish companies. It is directed not only against Turkish companies. They also included companies from many countries associated with Russia, such as the US and EU states. There are more than 18,000 companies on this list,” the Foreign Minister noted (quote according to TASS).

Cavusoglu said that the Turkish side is concerned about their own companies, therefore, appropriate actions were taken both in Kyiv and Ankara to clarify the situation.

The Turkish newspaper Aydınlık previously reported on the existence of a website associated with the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, which published a black list, which includes, among other things, top managers of Turkish banks Ziraat bankasi (Ziraat bankasi) and Is bankasi (Ish bankasi) . Kyiv declares their cooperation with Moscow.

In August, the Financial Times also wrote that the West is dissatisfied with the growing cooperation between Turkey and Russia and is ready to retaliate if Ankara helps Moscow to circumvent sanctions. This was stated by six Western officials after a meeting between Turkish and Russian Presidents Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Vladimir Putin in Sochi. At it, the leaders discussed the increase in trade, payment for Russian gas in rubles and the use of Mir cards in Turkey.
