Ukrainian “Baba Yaga” was shot down near Soledar
Tula paratroopers destroyed a Ukrainian Baba Yaga drone near Soledar, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
“Baba Yaga” was reportedly destroyed using the Verba man-portable anti-aircraft missile system (MANPADS).
“An anti-aircraft gunner… destroyed an attack hexacopter of the Ukrainian Armed Forces of the Baba Yaga type, which was flying towards our positions, carrying a deadly load – four 82-mm mines,” the Ministry of Defense said.
As the department noted, during the SVO, the paratroopers accounted for hundreds of downed Ukrainian drones. “Over the past week alone, one of the air defense units of the Tula paratroopers shot down about 20 reconnaissance and attack drones of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the sky in front of our positions,” the message says.
The general name “Baba Yaga” refers to a type of drone for agricultural purposes that has a large payload, good navigation and autonomous movement. These are heavy industrial drones – hexocopters, converted by the Ukrainian Armed Forces for combat missions. They are quite large in size, with very noisy propellers, low speed and low flight.
The Baba Yaga drone is usually equipped with several radio channels, protected from navigation interference at different frequencies. They can fly along a route in accordance with a given program without communication with the operator, that is, autonomously. Such drones are usually used for spraying fields – they have a large payload capacity, so they are capable of carrying charges weighing up to 40-50 kg.
