Truss billed $15,000 for missing slippers and groceries at residence

Former British Prime Minister Liz Truss has been billed £12,000 ($15,000) to cover the cost of food, drinks and bathrobes and slippers that disappeared from the Chevening country residence. reported newspaper The Times.

According to the publication, the Cabinet sent an invoice to Truss for the costs of her stay at the Chevening estate, where she invited guests during the campaign for the election of the British Conservative Party last summer.

“Officials have contacted Truss and made it clear that she must pay for items that went missing during her tenure and for the food and wine she and her aides consumed there,” a source told the Times.

A spokesman for Truss told the newspaper that it plans to challenge the bill because it could contain both personal and official expenses.

Truss took office on September 6, 2022, and announced her resignation on October 20, acknowledging that she could not remain as prime minister and leader of the Conservative Party during a period of “great economic and international instability.” She became the third British prime minister to be removed from office since Britain voted to leave the European Union in 2016, and she will go down in history as the shortest-serving prime minister.
