Trump says his trial is political persecution

Former US President Donald Trump has said the lawsuit against him is “politically motivated persecution” and claims that his opponents failed to legally defeat him in the election.
“What’s going on here is political persecution. This should not happen in our country. This is directed at a man who has a significant and wide margin in the Republican primaries and is clearly ahead of President Biden,” Trump said as he boarded the plane.
He stressed that he considers such an accusation unfair, as it is based on political considerations. Trump also refused to answer questions from reporters, believing that the lawsuit against him is nothing more than an attempt by unscrupulous rivals to remove him from the political game.
Earlier, in a Washington court, the ex-US president was charged with interference in the 2020 presidential election. Trump claims he is innocent of all four charges brought against him in court.
