Trump raises $15.4 million for campaign after indictment

Former US President Donald Trump has raised $15.4 million for his re-election campaign in just a few days since he was indicted. About it informs Bloomberg, citing data from his campaign headquarters.

98% of transfers were received from sponsors who donated less than $200. At the same time, $ 4 million was donated as early as March 31 – the day after the Manhattan grand jury voted to indict Trump on more than 30 fraud-related counts. The accusations are related to the 2016 $130,000 “silence fee” case against porn star Stormy Daniels. This episode took place against the backdrop of Trump’s previous campaign. According to prosecutors, Trump’s former personal lawyer Michael Cohen handed over the money to Daniels to “buy silence” over the actress’ alleged ties to Trump.

In total, in the first quarter of 2023, the ex-president received about $18.8 million; in the fourth quarter of 2022, he collected $20.4 million in donations, of which $9.5 million came after he announced on November 15 his intention to participate in the presidential elections in 2024

On April 4, Trump was arrested after arriving at the Manhattan District Court’s office. After that, he was indicted in the case of sending hidden payments “for silence” during his 2016 election campaign. Trump became the first US president to be charged with criminal offenses. After that, the formal arrest of Trump was lifted.

In total, the indictment contained 34 counts. Each ex-president could face up to four years in prison. Trump pleads not guilty.

After returning to his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, Trump issued a statement. The former US president called what is happening interference in the elections. According to him, there is a persecution, not a trial.
