During a conversation with reporters, Trump said he knew Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky “very well”.
“I know Zelensky very well, and I know Putin very well, even better. And I had a good relationship, a very good relationship with both of them. I’ll tell Zelensky enough is enough. You need to make a deal,” Trump said.
At the same time, he added that if Russia does not abandon its plans, he will threaten to send Ukraine as many weapons “as it has never had”, which, in his opinion, will lead to the conclusion of a peace treaty within a day.
Trump is one of many Republican Party representatives who oppose the continuation of the conflict in Ukraine. July 11 he spoke out against the supply of cluster munitions to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, because unexploded bombs “will kill and maim” civilians for “decades” after the end of hostilities. According to him, US President Joe Biden’s argument about the shortage of conventional artillery shells in the US only indicates the need for an “immediate de-escalation” of the situation in Ukraine.
On June 30, Trump admitted that Ukraine would have to cede part of the territory in order to resolve the conflict with Russia.
