A new scandal is erupting around Donald Trump in the United States after the American ex-president told protesters that immigrants are “poisoning the blood of our country.”

In New Hampshire, the former US president made remarks widely condemned as repeating white supremacist rhetoric, The Guardian writes.

Donald Trump, just weeks after using the “fascist” (from the point of view of his liberal critics) terminology “parasites” to describe sections of American society he dislikes, again declared at a rally in New Hampshire that immigrants are “poisoning the blood of our countries”.

Convicted for his previous remarks at the last rally Trump held in New Hampshire, where the former president threatened to “root out the communists, Marxists, fascists and thugs of the radical left who live as parasites within our country, who lie, steal and cheat in elections.” Trump appeared to redouble his efforts in Durham on Saturday.

“They poison the blood of our country. That’s what they did,” Trump told the crowd.

“They are poisoning mental institutions and prisons all over the world, not just in South America… but all over the world,” the former President of the United States continued. “They come to our country from Africa, from Asia, from all over the world.”

This is the second time Trump has used the phrase “poisoned blood”, which has been widely condemned for echoing white supremacist rhetoric, The Guardian notes.

Trump first did so in October, when Joe Biden said the former president, who faces 91 criminal charges, had begun using language heard in Nazi Germany.

“Trump also recently said that ‘America’s blood is poisoned.’ … Again, this repeats the same phrases that were used in Nazi Germany,” Biden said then.

CNN reported that if the former president wins in 2024, Trump plans to expand the harsh immigration policies of his first term, during which children were separated from their families at the border and put in cages. His new plans reportedly include placing undocumented immigrants already living in the U.S. in detention camps, presumably while awaiting deportation.

On Saturday, Donald Trump said he would “reinstate and expand” his U.S. travel bans – he banned entry into many Muslim-majority and African countries in 2017 – and said he would “undertake a rigorous ideological screening of all illegal immigrants.”

TV presenter Mehdi Hasan said on Saturday: “Classic Trump: say something crazy, outrageous, neo-Nazi-like and it will make headlines, cause outrage. So wait a little. Then do it again, no one will notice, there will be no coverage, and it becomes normalized and relevant. Let’s be clear: migrants are ‘poisoning the blood’ – that’s Hitler’s rhetoric.”
