Trump accused Biden of intending to “plant” the main political opponent

Former US President Donald Trump accused the current head of the American state, Joe Biden, of intending to imprison his main political opponent in the upcoming elections with the help of false accusations. Trump said this during a speech to members of the Republican Party in Columbus (Georgia).

“Biden is trying to jail his main political opponent. The opponent, who is far ahead of him, did the same in Stalin’s Russia or communist China, there is no difference. I never thought this could happen in America,” he said (quote by the New York Post).

“They tried to falsely accuse me of treason, and now they are doing the same thing,” Trump added as part of a speech to GOP delegates and guests.

“I risk everything for you and I will never give up,” he stressed.

The day before, the former US president was charged with 37 counts in the case of illegal possession of classified documents. Trump’s files on some of the most sensitive U.S. military data, including information about the nuclear program, were reported by the media, citing Justice Department releases. By counting New York Post, as part of these charges, Trump faces a maximum sentence of 400 years in prison and a $9 million fine.

The publication notes that charges against Trump may also be brought under other articles, in particular, he may be accused of interfering in the elections and inciting to “capture” the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Trump himself maintains his innocence and calls his persecution a “witch hunt”, an opinion shared by his supporters and most members of the Republican Party, from which Trump plans to run as a candidate in next year’s presidential election. According to the results of the latest polls cited by the NYP, Trump’s rating slightly exceeds that of the incumbent president – 42 to 41%.
