“Trinity” installed in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior – Kommersant

The icon “Trinity” by Andrei Rublev was transported from the Tretyakov Gallery to the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. It is installed in a capsule in the center of the cathedral.

The icon will be in the Cathedral for the festive service on June 4 and two more weeks after that, until June 18. The Russian Orthodox Church plans to allow believers to worship the icon daily from 10:00 to 19:00. At the same time, “in order to ensure the necessary conditions, technical breaks are possible” lasting up to 60 minutes. “Trinity” after being in the temple will be sent for planned restoration.

The capsule in which the icon is placed, according to the ministry, provides the necessary moisture regime. The temple must “strictly control the conditions required for the preservation of the monument.” Employees of the Tretyakov Gallery will watch the icon.

“Trinity” was transported by the company “Art Courier”. Its leader Alexander Zaretsky said that the icon was transported in “special vehicles equipped with air suspension, climate control and various security systems.” For transportation, a “special packing box was made that meets the museum’s requirements for this kind of items.” “Further on, our tasks were the safe packing of the icon in this box and its equally safe delivery to the place of exposure,” said Mr. Zaretsky.

Sergei Vinogradov, head of the department of automation and telemechanics of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, believes that the climate systems of the temple are suitable for “maintaining constant comfortable conditions for finding people, for storing icons.” According to him, for the safety of the “Trinity” “increased requirements are put forward for compliance with the regime of temperature and humidity, similar to museum ones.” Humidity is maintained at 55% in the capsule. Redundant ventilation and air conditioning systems have been prepared, as well as “refrigeration machines that will be started as needed.” A dispatch center operates around the clock, which monitors the status of systems and installations.
