The icon “Trinity” will be in the Moscow Cathedral of Christ the Savior for a year, then it will return to the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ said.
Earlier, the Russian Orthodox Church reported that Andrey Rublev’s “Trinity” will deliver to the Cathedral of Christ the Savior on Sunday, June 4. The relic will stay there until June 18. Believers will be allowed into the temple to worship the icon from 10:00 to 19:00.
On May 16, 2023, Patriarch Kirill addressed President Vladimir Putin with a request to coordinate the transfer of the Trinity to the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. On May 26, the Kremlin announced that they had agreed on the details of transferring the shrine to the temple.
Later, the Moscow Patriarchate circulated a message that, by decision of President Vladimir Putin, the Trinity icon would be transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church. The icon, according to this message, will first be in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, after which it will return to the Trinity Cathedral of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra. The museum community has been insisting for many years that even a temporary stay of a fragile icon outside the comfortable museum conditions threatens to destroy the world’s most famous monument of ancient Russian art.
