Transportation of Russian Railways passengers decreased by 2.1% in August

Commuter trains carried 94.4 million people in August (3% less than in August 2022), the number of passengers on long-distance trains, on the contrary, increased to 14.3 million (4.6% more).
Passenger turnover in August amounted to 17.2 billion passenger kilometers, which is 4.1% more than in August 2022. Suburban passenger traffic increased by 0.5% to 3.2 billion passenger kilometers, in long-distance routes – by 4.9% to 14 billion passenger kilometers.
In total, since the beginning of 2023, 785.6 million passengers have traveled on the road (4.6% more than in the same period in 2022), of which 702.6 million (+3.8%) were in suburban traffic, in long-distance routes – 83 million people (+12%). Passenger turnover increased by 10.4% and amounted to 93.1 billion passenger-kilometers (22 billion in suburban traffic and 71.1 billion in long-distance traffic).
August 17 Russian Railways opened sale of tickets for almost all long-distance trains 90 days before their departure. Prior to this, due to the reconstruction of the infrastructure of the Central Transport Hub, tickets were available for purchase no earlier than 45 days in advance.
