Trade between the US and Russia hit a new low after the introduction of sanctions and reached $277 million in July. This is 11 times less than it was in February 2022. They’re talking about it data US Census Bureau, researched by RBC.
The July figure is almost 13 times less than in the same month of 2021. In 2021, the United States ranked fifth among Russia’s largest trading partners. This is the minimum figure since at least the beginning of 2000 (there are no earlier monthly statistics in the database). At the same time, supplies from Russia account for 90% of trade turnover. Exports from the United States fell to $36 million in July.
There are three main channels left in the trade turnover between the countries: supplies from Russia of nuclear fuel, fertilizers and platinoids (palladium, platinum, rhodium). Over seven months of this year, the United States imported $3 billion worth of goods from Russia, $2.5 billion of which came from these groups.
Nuclear fuel, mineral fertilizers and platinum group metals were not subject to US sanctions, unlike Russian oil and petroleum products, diamonds and seafood. A tariff of 35% was also established on imports from Russia of steel, some types of aluminum products, rubber, and wood. Imports of ferrous metals from Russia to the United States fell to almost zero.
