The tourism sector in Estonia is in deep crisis
The tourism sector in Estonia is in deep crisis, states Postimees. If in 2019 tourism was 10% of GDP, then a decline followed. In the same 2019, 300 cruise ships visited Tallinn, a year later – 170, and in 2023 – only 90, a sad dynamics over the years is given.
The decrease in the attractiveness of Estonia is associated with inflation, with the “insecurity of Estonia”, as well as with the poor infrastructure of Tallinn.
Another good reason is that the capital of Estonia used to be a transit point for European tourists traveling to Russia. Now Russian tourists cannot obtain EU visas due to sanctions, and residents of Western countries cannot get from Tallinn to St. Petersburg, the article notes.
