When planning a vacation, it is better not to count on anything in advance. Such a lesson had to be learned once again by many tourists trying to go on a planned holiday to Egypt in the last weeks of the year against the backdrop of massive cancellation of iFly flights. The carrier has not yet been able to agree on a route to fly over Jordan, although it does not seem to be losing hope. At least tourists learn about the fate of upcoming trips literally on the eve of departure: for example, at five o’clock in the evening on December 22, the Tez Tour tour operator informed counterparties about the cancellation of flights to Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh on December 23. The company is still making plans for December 24.
This approach is not always close to tourists, especially those who get to the airport from other regions. “We took the train to the airport, and upon arrival we were told that the cancellation,” one of the clients shares in the Tez Tour group on VK.
Money for canceled tours is still being returned to travelers, but this may not be enough for all. Especially next week, when tourists are supposed to start New Year’s races according to the plan.
Egypt, according to Travelata.ru, was chosen by 29% of travelers as a destination for holiday trips, but far from everyone has clarity on them. “We took it on December 30, we planned to meet with our daughter and grandson. We wait. We still need to fly to Moscow from Transbaikalia, a ticket for 29 thousand rubles. If they cancel, you will have to rest in Moscow for a week, celebrate the New Year, ”one of the tourists philosophically argues in the comments of the TurDom Roof Telegram channel. Another notes that there are many risks: “Not only can you stay without a vacation, but you still haven’t stocked up on food or alcohol at home for the holiday.”
Most outraged tourists and agents are demanding clarity about upcoming flights, but it’s far from certain that the cancellation of the tour will be a pleasant surprise for them even with a full refund. First of all, because of the cost of alternative options. So, only a flight from Moscow to Sharm el-Sheikh and back on December 29-January 6 on the official website of Aeroflot now costs 84.6 thousand rubles, for two we will talk about 169.1 thousand rubles. While the average tour when booking a New Year’s trip to Egypt, according to Travelata.ru, this year amounted to 141.3 thousand rubles.
Tourists, of course, are no longer accustomed to drastically changing their vacation plans, this was taught first by the pandemic, and then by the military actions of the Russian Federation in Ukraine. Last summer, according to a survey by the All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center, 17% of Russians had to go through such a situation. Another question is whether travelers who have “spent on pins and needles” for two weeks before the New Year will want to use the services of a tour operator again, risking a cancellation of a flight and the need for additional payments. Or it’s safer to immediately think about options for independent logistics.
