Too slow price growth worried the Russian authorities

Too slow inflation has become one of the key problems in late 2022 – early 2023, this situation threatens the Russian economy. About this, according to “Vedomosti“, said the Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Maxim Reshetnikov during a meeting with the head of state Vladimir Putin.
The Ministry of Economic Development noted that low inflation was not the result of an increase in supply, but a stagnation in demand. Since September 2022, prices have risen by no more than three percent, while, according to statistics, sales have still fallen.
The key task for 2023 will be to increase demand, the indicator of which is the increase in prices.
It is noted that we are talking about reaching the target range set by the Central Bank – this is five to seven percent this year.
The publication also reports that a similar point of view is shared by presidential aide Maxim Oreshkin and First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov.
