President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held an extraordinary meeting of the Security Council on June 25, during which he stated that the country was concerned about what was happening in Russia. About it informs press service of the administration of the head of the republic.

During the meeting, Tokayev listened to the reports of the Prime Minister, the Prosecutor General, the Chairman of the National Security Committee, the Ministers of Defense, the Interior, and Foreign Affairs on measures to fulfill orders in connection with the situation in Russia.

“Despite the fact that what happened in Russia is its internal affair, the people of Kazakhstan perceived with concern the situation in a friendly country with which Kazakhstan has the longest border in the world,” the report says.

Tokayev emphasized that Russia is a strategic partner of Kazakhstan, and recalled in a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin that he supported Moscow’s measures to “establish constitutional order and ensure the safety” of citizens. The head of the republic also welcomed the achievement of an agreement on the cessation of hostilities and stated that the principle of the rule of law should be a priority in the domestic policy of any state. The President of Kazakhstan noted the need for the security of Kazakhstani citizens and instructed the heads of all departments to be ready to respond to possible threats of crisis situations. Following the meeting, the head of state approved the operational plan of action developed by the government, the press service reported.

Tokaev called up with Putin on Saturday, June 24, against the backdrop of the events taking place around the Wagner PMC. A criminal case was initiated against the founder of the company, Yevgeny Prigozhin, against the backdrop of an attempt to organize an armed rebellion; fighters from his organization have already been seen in several regions. As a result of negotiations between Prigozhin and President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, an agreement was reached that Wagner PMC would return to their camps. The criminal case against Prigozhin will be dropped, and he will “leave for Belarus,” the Kremlin said.
