Times: Ukraine has been asking the US for decommissioned AH-1Z Viper helicopters for a long time

The Times newspaper, citing Colonel of the 12th Army Aviation Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Dmitry Kulkevich, reports that Kiev has been asking Washington for AH-1Z Viper helicopters, which have been withdrawn from service in the United States, for several months, but negotiations have reached a dead end.
According to Kulkevich, the military hoped that they would be able to get their hands on the AH-1Z, which had been withdrawn from service in the United States. He claims that negotiations on providing Kyiv with 16-24 combat vehicles have been ongoing for several months.
At the same time, as the colonel noted, the negotiations reached a dead end due to the discussion of new funding for Ukraine in the US Congress. He indicated that the Ukrainian side asked for helicopters three months ago. Kulkevich stressed that Kyiv is not asking for Apache helicopters due to the more complex aircraft systems and the longer time required for retraining.
The publication added that Ukrainian pilots have to fly on helicopters that were assembled in the 60s and 70s of the last century, and missions on them often have to be canceled due to a lack of missiles or technical malfunctions.
