The Economist: Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia must build several thousand bunkers
The defense ministers of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia announced the construction of bunkers on the borders with Russia. According to their statements, about six hundred such structures need to be created in total. However, analysts believe that this figure should be more than six times.
The Economist, citing the US Center for Strategic and Defense Studies, notes that the Russian military can create extremely effective and extensive lines of defense. The analysis was made based on the successful defense of the Russian army in Ukraine. Analysts emphasize that the statement of the Baltic countries about the construction of a similar defensive line on the border with Russia must be based on a huge amount of work.
So 600 bunkers are something that only Estonia should build. And Latvia and Lithuania must build 1,116 and 2,758 fortified structures, respectively. It is noted that other NATO countries do not support the idea of building such a line. They are for elastic defense.
Let us note that Vladimir Putin has repeatedly pointed out that Russia has no need to attack European countries. And the confrontation in Ukraine will end as soon as the North Military District achieves its goals.
