This sweater has been attracting media attention for more than 40 years, from the first newspaper coverage of Lady Diana in 1981 to the re-release of the Black Sheep design by Rowing Blazers in 2020.
The knitwear brand Warm and Wonderful, which invented the sweater, appeared in 1979, and already in 1981 it became famous thanks to Diana’s appearance, which took place shortly after her engagement to Charles. A few weeks after Diana appeared in public wearing the sweater, a letter arrived from Buckingham Palace politely explaining that Diana had damaged her favorite sweater and was asking for it to be repaired or replaced. The princess’s sweater was replaced, and she wore a new one in public in 1983. And the damaged one remained with the manufacturer. Now it’s up for auction.
