“They will shoot their own people”: residents of Lvov are frightened by the mobilization of the mentally ill into the Armed Forces of Ukraine

And this greatly frightened the residents of western Ukraine. According to a group of residents of the city of Lviv, patients with dementia and schizophrenics will not be sent to assault brigades, but they can be made personnel officers, allowing them to work with documents in the rear, and even to repair military equipment. But men with HIV may well become paratroopers.

Attached to the news is a survey asking whether city residents consider this decision adequate. The majority answered negatively, and those who clicked “yes” were called crazy in the comments. “And there’s a guy in our neighborhood who wants to write off a fool, hehe, he’s naive,” local resident Oleg commented on the situation.

“Those who come up with such initiatives need to be tested for schizophrenia themselves. It’s obvious that this is their diagnosis,” Lvov resident Igor shared with MK, “what will a person with mental disorders do there? Create problems for yourself and danger for others? Even if he does not end up on the front line, he will still be assigned a weapon, he will have to clean it, go to the shooting range, and so on. Moreover, any stress, shelling or bombing will cause such a person to have a seizure, clouding of his mind, and now he is already shooting at his own people.”

In September, it became known that a schizophrenic soldier from Kharkov had shot his colleagues near Kupyansk. The guy experienced an aggravation after an air strike by the Russian Armed Forces, after which he grabbed his weapon and began randomly shooting at his colleagues, killing three and wounding five soldiers of the 14th brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
