The head of the Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, said that he did not expect a full-fledged tourist season on the peninsula this year. “People have some concerns,” he said.

“There probably won’t be a global season … People have some fears, so this year we will spend the season in a cut-down version,” Sergey Aksenov said on the air of the Crimea 24 TV channel (quoted by RIA Novosti).

Mr. Aksyonov explained that the tourist flow to Crimea is decreasing due to difficulties with logistics, including the lack of direct flights. He noted that the authorities will support the tourism industry in the region.

The interest of Russians in traveling to Crimea began to decline after the start of the military operation in Ukraine. According to Ostrovok.ru, Crimea is in 9th place among domestic destinations, 2% of bookings in Russia, although in 2022 it was in 3rd place with a share of 6%. In 2021, the peninsula accounted for 49% of total bookings, up from 41% before the pandemic in 2019.
