There will be no deprivatization – Kommersant

The fact that the Prosecutor General’s Office works on specific companies is not connected with any decisions of the authorities, President Vladimir Putin said during the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF). He stressed that there will be no deprivatization, which business fears. However, the president recalled, everyone must comply with the laws.

“I want to emphasize once again, especially in today’s conditions: in general, Russian business behaves extremely responsibly. Highly responsible. And it preserves work teams, establishes new supply chains, and behaves actively. Of course, in many cases there is a demand for the emergence of a new class, a young class of businessmen. This is also true. But no one says that issues need to be resolved by deprivatization,” the president expressed his position.

Yesterday, September 11, President of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP) Alexander Shokhin statedthat cases of nationalization of private assets worry the business community. According to him, entrepreneurs do not understand “who might be next in line.” In his opinion, now it would be more important to maintain economic stability.

Business concerns, in particular, were caused by the decision of the Arbitration Court of the Perm Territory, which on September 8 satisfied the claim of the Prosecutor General’s Office for the seizure of 94.2% of the shares of Metafrax Chemicals JSC to the income of the Russian Federation. According to the prosecutor’s office, the plant is a strategic enterprise, and it was possible to privatize it due to the illegal actions of local officials.
