There are no changes in Russia’s nuclear doctrine – Kommersant

Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Western aggression against Russia is obvious, but there are no changes in Russian nuclear doctrine. This is how he commented on the words of Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev about the growing risk of using nuclear weapons.

At the same time, Dmitry Peskov called it not entirely correct to ask how the Kremlin views Mr. Patrushev’s statement. “The fact is that Patrushev is the secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, this is part of the Kremlin, what is called the Kremlin. Therefore, this is considered a statement by the Kremlin, of course,” he noted. Earlier today, Nikolai Patrushev said that due to US actions, the risk of using nuclear, chemical and biological weapons increases.

“The directly and indirectly demonstrated aggressive nature of the so-called collective West towards our country is no secret to anyone. This is obvious, and this is officially and openly confirmed by statements of representatives of the collective West,” said Dmitry Peskov. “As for our country, we have our doctrine, where everything is clearly stated, there are no changes there. This was repeatedly confirmed by the head of state. Therefore, everything is very clear here,” the press secretary added.

According to Russian military doctrine, the use of nuclear weapons is permissible in the event of aggression against Russia using weapons of mass destruction, conventional weapons, or when the existence of the state is threatened.
