The Roman jewelry and watch house Bvlgari held a presentation of a new collection of high jewelry Mediterranea in Venice in a 15th-century palace. The new jewelry is dedicated to an imaginary historical journey through the Mediterranean, the cradle of human civilization, and is conditionally divided into three motifs, each of which is made up of different symbols and associations.

Intricate architecture, lush gardens, and the colors of the Mediterranean coast make southern Italy a unique source of inspiration for the Southern Lights line, embodying Bvlgari’s joyful and life-loving spirit. The Mediterranean Muse necklace seduces with a 15.13-carat cushion-cut central sapphire in deep blue, surrounded by aquamarines and diamonds. Like life in the coastal white villages of the Puglia region, the platinum Southern Sapphire necklace features a composition of diamonds and clear sapphires around a 66.88-carat Ceylon sapphire, reminiscent of the blueness of the Adriatic Sea.

Jewelry “Roman Splendor” reminds of some of the symbolic monuments of the Eternal City, its mythology and history. The 218.53-carat emerald was the starting point for Bvlgari Creative Director Lucia Silvestri to develop the Muse of Rome transformable necklace with a detachable central pendant. The bas-reliefs of the ancient Roman Altar of Peace inspired the silhouette of an Acanthus Emerald necklace with seven emeralds of the same color and transparency, totaling 33.59 carats of drop-cut cut, surrounded by emeralds and diamonds. The Esedra sautoir, with a 68.88-carat emerald hexagonal pendant, is dedicated to the signature Bvlgari jewelry of the 1970s. The combination of emeralds, amethysts and turquoise is the signature touch of the house and is reminiscent of the lush color palette of the Mediterranean.

The mosaic of the cultures of three continents – Europe, Africa and Asia, intersecting in the Mediterranean – acquires the style characteristic of Bvlgari in the line “East meets West”. The composition of nine mandarin garnets weighing more than 90 carats and bright citrines in the Oriental Fantasy necklace is reminiscent of North African spices, while the combination of mother-of-pearl and black onyx refers to the henna tattoos of Oriental women. A 13.34-carat vintage Colombian emerald is the star of the Byzantine-inspired rose gold Oriental Buds necklace. The necklace comes with a secret watch set with a 5.65-carat Colombian cushion emerald surrounded by pavé diamonds. The Tribute to Venice necklace celebrates Venetian architecture with a 15.38-carat bright yellow diamond set with an arrangement of yellow and colorless diamonds set in a cascade of diamond baguettes.

During the presentation, the three lines of the Mediterranea collection are located on the ground floor of the Venetian Palazzo Soranzo Van Axel, along with the latest in high jewelry art from the Serpenti collection, which this year celebrates its 75th anniversary, six unique bags with removable precious elements that can be worn as a necklace – and Bvlgari watches.

“The Mediterranea High Jewelry Collection is a tribute to the beauty of the Mediterranean in all its forms,” says Bvlgari Creative Director Lucia Silvestri. “It is an inspiring melting pot where different cultures and societies have mingled and enriched each other over the centuries. The Bvlgari aesthetic is rooted in this story.”
