The world’s 21 richest billionaires sold a total of $9.3 billion worth of shares in US-listed companies in the first half of 2023, reports Forbes. Billionaires Rob Walton, Joe Gebbia and Larry Ellison have been among the businessmen who have profitably sold shares.
As Forbes notes, the richest people in the world are once again “set to sell” after a very unsuccessful year for many businessmen in 2022. Now, in particular, billionaires are actively getting rid of the papers of the companies they left. At the same time, among the richest entrepreneurs on the planet there are also those who want to invest in the purchase of sports teams, for which they need to quickly receive a significant amount of “free money”: for this they sell shares of the companies they own. In addition, some businessmen sell securities against the backdrop of buybacks by companies in order to avoid the “undesirable” size of their shares.
In particular, one of the largest transactions with the participation of Forbes list members is the sale by billionaire Rob Walton of Walmart shares for $1.1 billion. In addition, billionaire Joe Gebbia sold shares of Airbnb rental service for $890 million, and billionaire Larry Ellison sold shares them to Oracle Corporation for $850 million.
In April, it was reported that in the ranking of the richest billionaires in the world, compiled by Forbes, the leader changed – the list was first headed by the owner of Louis Vuitton and Dior, Bernard Arnault. At the same time, according to the estimates of the publication, almost half of the billionaires from the list have become poorer over the past year. One example is the leader of the previous Forbes list, Elon Musk, who lost almost $40 billion in a year.
