How the media works in new territories
Russian media outlets have been operating in the DPR and LPR since 2014. Correspondent offices or representative offices did not open here due to the unrecognized status of the republics (Russia recognized their independence on February 21, 2022), so, as a rule, local journalists worked here as staff correspondents of federal publications.
The number of correspondents working in Donbass varied depending on the news agenda. In October 2022, the All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company announced the opening of representative offices in new regions of the Russian Federation. For example, a branch of the All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company in Lugansk will start operating in 2023, it will rent part of the office of the State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company of the LPR.
