White House Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby said US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin is still in the hospital due to complications from prostate cancer surgery.
“We’ll see when they can release him,” Kirby said on CBS News. However, he added that doctors still believe Austin may require some additional help.
In particular, Kirby noted, the Pentagon chief is undergoing physical therapy.
Asked that US President Joe Biden did not know that the Defense Secretary had prostate cancer before Austin was hospitalized, Kirby said: “That is a problem.” He added that more answers are needed in the situation and the Pentagon is investigating.
