A Western official who spoke on condition of anonymity told the publication that the West still considers a nuclear crisis “highly unlikely.” At the same time, according to him, Western countries have decided to reconsider plans to provide emergency assistance and support to the population, which is afraid of nuclear escalation.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden said he did not think that Russian President Vladimir Putin would use tactical nuclear weapons in the conflict in Ukraine. The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said that if the Russian side uses nuclear weapons in Ukraine, this will provoke a powerful military response from the West. Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, called such words paranoia.
