The volume of cargo transportation through the Russian Railways network with the SCO countries increased by 47.5% in the first quarter

The volume of cargo transportation on the network Russian Railways with the countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in January-March amounted to 70 million tons, which is 47.5% more than in the same period last year. About it informed Chairman of the Board JSCRussian Railways» Oleg Belozerov at a meeting of heads of railways of the member states of the organization.

Belozerov said that according to the results of the entire 2022, this figure amounted to 202 million tons, which is 8.1% more than the results of 2021. The main railway network of the SCO member countries (India, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan) exceeds 340,000 km. These countries account for 75% of the world’s rail freight traffic, he added.

At the meeting, the participants discussed issues of digitalization, development of human resources and cooperation in the field of ecology, as well as security and information exchange.

The loading of coke also slightly increased to 3.7 million tons (+2%), container cargo – up to 38.3 million tons (+1.6%), hard coal – up to 121.6 million tons (+1%). Transportation of oil and oil products for four months of 2023 remained at the last year’s level, amounting to 72 million tons.
