The US will try to seal the anti-China alliance between Japan and South Korea

U.S. Presidents Joe Biden, South Korean Presidents Yun Seok-yeol and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will hold a trilateral meeting at the American leader’s Camp David residence on August 18 to unveil new joint defense initiatives. At the same time, according to a Reuters report, so far we are not talking about an agreement that would oblige these three countries to protect each other, but only about developing common positions and creating a trilateral hotline for communication in crisis situations.
Washington has allied military agreements with both Tokyo and Seoul separately, but now the White House wants the two countries to move closer to each other and increase cooperation. The reason is concern about the threats that the United States sees from China. According to one of the agency’s sources, the joint statement following the summit will include provisions on maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, but the exact wording will be verified until the last minute. The United States now does not want to go into a sharp escalation with China, as they are counting on negotiations between Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the end of 2023. But Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin has already commented on the intentions of the three countries – Beijing opposes “small group formation ” and disapproves of actions that lead “to intensify confrontation and undermine the strategic security of other states.”
