Today, February 8, US Department of Commerce published data on the country’s trade balance in 2023. The US trade deficit fell 18.7% last year to $177.8 billion, the first such decline since 2009. American exports increased by 1.2%, to $3.05 trillion, while imports decreased by 3.6%, to $3.83 trillion.
The US trade deficit with China fell by almost 27% in 2023, to $279.4 billion, the lowest in more than a decade. Imports of goods from China last year decreased by 20%, to $427.2 billion. Thus, China ceased to be the largest importer – now Mexico took this place with imports to the United States worth $475.6 billion.
