The US Supreme Court did not consider a request to disqualify former US President Donald Trump from the 2024 election under a constitutional provision barring those who have “engaged in insurrection or insurrection” from holding public office. About it reports Reuters.
Texas tax consultant John Anthony Castro, who has long been a contender for the Republican presidential nomination, insisted on disqualifying Trump. Castro called Trump’s actions surrounding the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol by supporters of the then-president an insurrection.
The lawsuit filed by Castro sought to declare Trump ineligible to hold public office and bar him from applying to be on the ballot in any US state. Castro claimed Trump provided “aid or comfort” to the rioters, saying he would consider pardoning them if re-elected.
Court in Washington appointed on March 4, 2024, the start of the trial of Trump in the case of an attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, with the storming of the Capitol as one of the episodes. The trial will begin the day before Super Tuesday, when the US will hold primary elections in the states, which will actually determine the candidates from each party.
