Ukraine will receive kits for servicing Hawk air defense systems worth $138 million
The US State Department has authorized the sale to Ukraine of kits for the maintenance of Hawk anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM) in the amount of $138 million. This decision was made after the Ukrainian authorities sent a request for the purchase of equipment and services to modernize the Hawk Phase III air defense system, the US Department of Defense reports.
According to the department, such a sale will contribute to achieving US foreign policy and national security goals by strengthening the security of the partner country. The US military noted that the supply of maintenance kits for the Hawk air defense system will not upset the military balance in the region and will not reduce the defense capabilities of the United States.
This deal is important for Ukraine, as the upgrade and modernization of the Hawk air defense system will allow the Ukrainian armed forces to increase their defense capabilities.
Hawk air defense systems have already proven their effectiveness in various conflicts and operations around the world. The Hawk medium-range missile system was used during the Arab-Israeli conflicts and the Iran-Iraq war.
