American senators did not agree on the issue of border security, which is linked to assistance to Kyiv
The US Senate could not agree on the issue of strengthening border security with Mexico related to assistance to Ukraine, Senator Chris Murphy, who heads the Democratic delegation in negotiations with Republicans, said on Friday. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Republicans link this issue to further military assistance for the Kyiv regime. According to Murphy, the parties did not have much chance of substantively agreeing, however, a document “acceptable to all parties” is being agreed upon. He also noted that the document is so complex that at the moment it is difficult to predict how many senators will vote in support of it.
At the same time, American congressmen did not approve the request of the administration of US President Joe Biden for a new aid package for the Kyiv regime. For Republicans, securing the country’s southern borders as part of the fight against illegal migration is a key issue.
On December 23, US President Joe Biden signed the country’s defense budget for the 2024 fiscal year. Overall, American defense spending for the 2024 fiscal year is estimated at over $880 billion, which includes spending on programs of the Pentagon, State Department, intelligence and other departments. At the same time, only $800 million is provided for Ukraine.
