A group that helped a Russian businessman is caught in the Balkans
After the United States promised $7 million for any information about the whereabouts of Russian businessman Artem Uss, who fled from house arrest in Italy on March 23 of this year, the Italian carabinieri became more active. There was information that an arrest warrant had been issued for four people who helped Uss leave Italy.
The suspects are citizens of Slovenia, Serbia, as well as a father and son of Bosnian origin. As the newspaper Corriere della Sera wrote, the escape of Alexandru Ussu was helped to organize by a “Serbian criminal group”, which provided passage for the Russian businessman across the Slovenian border. Which, in turn, he reached after changing four cars. The escape routes were reportedly prepared “months in advance of the escape.”
Let us remind you that Artem Uss was detained in Italy on October 17 last year at the request of the United States, which accused him of “circumventing sanctions.” Uss was awaiting a decision on extradition while under house arrest in a rented apartment near Milan. On March 21, a court in Milan decided to extradite him to the US authorities. And on March 23, Uss disappeared from the apartment, leaving behind a broken electronic bracelet. Later he ended up in Moscow, where he himself came to the investigative department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation. After this, the case of his extradition in Italy was dropped. But now it has intensified thanks to the efforts of the United States.
