The US extended export sanctions against three Russian airlines

The United States Department of Commerce introduced sanctions in April 2022 and then extended the restrictions several times. According to the rules, the period of sanctions was extended by 180 days. US restrictions prohibit the export and re-export of components manufactured in the US, including through intermediaries in third countries.
Official orders from the Ministry’s Bureau of Industry and Security will be published on September 28. The structure submitted a written request to extend the restrictions on September 5. The documents state that no objections were received.
“This order comes into force immediately and will be in effect for one year,” follows from all three documents.
In June 2022, the US Department of Commerce revoked the export privileges of Nordwind Airlines, Pobeda and S7, and at the end of May – Rossiya. In May 2023, similar measures were accepted in relation to Smartavia airline.
After the start of the special operation in Ukraine, Western countries introduced sanctions, which also affected the Russian aviation industry. Unfriendly countries closed the skies to Russian aircraft, Russia introduced mirror measures. Russian carriers were prohibited from purchasing foreign-made aircraft and spare parts for them, as well as carrying out maintenance and insurance of aircraft.
